Jail Pods
The Clark County Jail will open jail pods as a temporary solution to the jail over- crowding. On Sunday August 27, 2006 Sheriff Gene Kelly and deputies gave interested area residents a glimpse of the mobile housing units that will start holding jail inmates this morning. The mobile housing units- located in the garage under the jail- aren't a new addition. They previously housed inmates and juveniles during renovations. The increasing number of inmates in the Clark County Jail led Sheriff Gene Kelly to get permission from the state and funding from the county to open the units as a temporary housing for nonviolent offenders until a more permanent solution to the over-crowding can be found. Ten inmates will be housed in each of the six units, which resemble trailers and have air conditioning, bunk beds, small lockers, a counter, chairs, a TV and a phone. A deputy will be on duty 24 hours a day, and security cameras in each unit and throughout the area feed constant footage into a booth where the deputy can monitor the inmates.
