Text Box: An upgrade in communications was also undertaken as it became obvious that the technology we had was quickly becoming obsolete and problematic. To enhance the safety of our deputies in the field and provide better service to the community, the Clark County Sheriff's Office installed updated communications equipment in all the cruisers and issued new portable radios. The new system has an in-car repeater system (signal booster) that eliminates the signal strength problem experienced by hand held radios of the past. Before, a portable radio did not have the power to communicate in some areas of the county. Now, the deputy’s portable radio is part of a system linked to the cruiser radio so when the deputy transmits, the signal is routed through the power plant in the cruiser and broadcast with a greater signal strength. They also have a panic button that transmits detailed identifying information to the Communication Center if a deputy encounters a problem. This makes a safer situation for Clark County Sheriff's Office personnel as well as the public. The Clark County Sheriff's Office is always searching for a safer, better, and more efficient way to provide the caliber of service the public needs and deserves.

Disruptions in the primary power source frequently occur due to storms or other unforeseen events. To prepare for such instances, the Clark County Sheriff's Office installed, with the new communications equipment, an emergency power source for the 911 system ensuring the citizens of Clark County will be able to summon emergency services when they are most needed. We also maintain a generator to provide power to the facility in emergency situations.
