Anti Fatal Enforcement Initiative

(Speaking to the media is (Left) Sheriff Gene A. Kelly and (Right) Lieutenant Kenneth Kocab Commander of the Springfield Post of The Ohio State Highway Patrol.


The Clark County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol in a collaborative effort to reduce traffic fatalities in Bethel Township will form a special traffic enforcement unit.  This team of Deputies and State Troopers will be under the project name of "AFEI" (Anti Fatal Enforcement Initiative).

A correlation exists that increased traffic enforcement that will reduce fatalities and accidents involving serious injuries.  Both Law Enforcement agencies will focus their traffic enforcement in the following areas of Bethel Township.

A. Lower Valley Pike
B. Spangler Road
C. State Route 40
D. State Route 235

     The Springfield Post of the Highway Patrol have added enforcement from their Dayton Post.  The Clark County Sheriff's Office will increase their enforcement efforts by using contracted Deputies from Bethel Township and adding Deputies on overtime paid by a grant from the Governors Highway Safety Office.

     Both agencies would ask the motoring public to call if they suspect a driver to be operating a motor vehicle while under the influence or observe a vehicle operating in a reckless manner.

This increased enforcement effort will continue and the activity will be evaluated by each agency to review the activity of the agencies efforts.

Also attending this media event was the Bethel Township Trustee's Nancy Brown, David Phares, and David Finfrock. Bethel Township Fire Department Assistant Chief Duane Stitzel. This media event was also supported by members of the Sheriff's Office and the Bethel Township Fire Department.
